History and Traditional Use

Myrtle (Myrtus communis) was closely associated with Aphrodite in Ancient Greece and was regarded as a symbol of love, marriage, and fertility. It was commonly incorporated into ceremonial wreaths and rituals.

Queen Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India, reigned for 63 years during the nineteenth century. According to tradition, a sprig of myrtle taken from her wedding bouquet was planted, and its descendants have since been included in British royal wedding bouquets.
